Restaurant

By Lorraine Caputo

In the front courtyard of an old castle, beneath the shade of a large tree, doña Claudia grills up fish, chicken and steak for the à la carte entrées ($1.85-2.65). In the small kitchen, the comida corrientes—rice, beans, salad, yucca or potatoes and meat—are dished up ($1.30). All is served with a pint of agua de panela. Expect to share one of the nine tables, as this is an extremely popular lunch place. The au fresco dining experience, with that subtle Cucuteña breeze, is a refreshing alternative to hot, stuffy restaurants. Open daily 7 a.m.-2 p.m.; lunch 10:30 a.m.-whenever the food runs out.
