Being a major tourist destination, many of the cities in Eastern Colombia have tour operators to help you enjoy the sites. In San Gil agencies specialize in taking visitors on the high-adrenaline adventures of whitewater rafting, paragliding, rappelling, spelunking, horseback riding and other such sports. Guides in Parque Nacional Natural El Cocuy are mostly from the local community and have been specially trained in tourism; they specialize mostly in trekking and mountain climbing and some rent pack mules. Another place to look for inexpensive guides is at the local SENA program, which is training low-income residents in tourism. Even villages as small as Capitanejo have such schools. Many tour agencies in Bogotá can also arrange outings to many of the tourist attractions in Eastern Colombia, especially to Villa de Leyva and Parque Nacional Natural El Cocuy.
