Málaga is a good starting point to explore the villages and mountains nearby. Its best to stay in Málaga and then do daytrips around. 15 minutes from Málaga: Tequia, public pool in the old ruins of a now defunct monastery. 15 minutes from Málaga: San Jose de Miranda, a small pilgrimage site with nice church. Concepcion, 20 minutes from Málaga, nice main square, good walk along the river to Enciso, good "cabro" goat. Enciso, 30 minutes from Málaga, small town, used to be a center for tabacco producction, one can still see the ruins of old haciendas and some small tabacco production going on. Nice walk on the old road from Pena Colorada to Enciso, crossing a small hanging bridge and passing very good views.
