The Hotel Ursua has always reminded me of my country grandmother’s house: big, overstuffed beds and mis-matched furniture in the rooms and generations of now-antique sewing machines, irons, phonographs and other items scattered throughout. (Be sure to check out the LP record collection—everything from Seals & Croft to a very young Joan Serrat.) Now a third generation of this family’s women is greeting the weary traveler to this eclectic but comfortable lodge that is in part of the over-400-year-old house of Juan de Maldonado. All rooms have private, hot water baths. Opt for television or not. The restaurant serves good food.
