Holiday & Fiesta

By Lorraine Caputo

Güicán’s patron saint is the Virgen Morenita whose feast day is February 2 (Candelaria), during which faithful make a romería, or pilgrimage to the Virgin. On this night the traditional Danza de la Clizneja, similar to the Maypole Dance, is performed. For the next half-week, from February 3 to 6, the town celebrates its Fiestas Reales with processions, horse races, a gastronomic fair and other activities.
