Another prime activity in PNN El Cocuy is trekking across its plains. A series old trails traverse the wind-swept landscaped rimed with snow-covered mountains. The solitude makes it a wondrous experience. A highlight is the Valle de Cojines, an area of huge pillows of Plantago rigido carpeting the earth. One–day treks include those to Las Lagunillas, Cueva de Cuchumba and the snow line of Ritaku'wa Blanco. The longest excursion is the Vuelta a las Sierras, or the Sierra Circuit, which can be combined with mountain climbing. A half-circuit can be done around the north sierra, returning through Ratoncito Valley (three days). Treks can also be done to Laguna Verde, Laguna de las Lajas, Laguna Grande de Pachacual or Laguna Grande de la Sierra.
