As one of San Gil’s finest hotels, Mesón del Cuchicute is still remarkably affordable. A country-club-styled inn with park-like grounds, the Mesón has all the comforts that make up a luxury vacation: swimming pool, playground, Jacuzzi, sauna, gymnasium and game room. The brick-floored rooms are amazing with fan, cable TV, mini-bar (separate charge) and private balcony. The hand basins in the hot-water baths are made of rough marble, copper and brass. Rooms for singles or couples are on the third floor. Mesón del Cuchicute also is ecologically conscious, it recycles and has a composting refuse. This has to be one of the best bargains in Colombia.

Getting There:
Mesón del Cuchicute is located one kilometer from town, past the long-distance bus terminal. Some of the city buses go right to the front gate of the complex, e.g. the one marked “Mesón” ($0.40). A taxi from the center costs $1.40.

Lower:$5.40 per person
Higher:$35 per person
Price Description:Camping: $5.40 per person, with right to facilities; cold-water bathhouse; no grills

Cabañas or rooms: $21 per person (low season, Monday-Thursday), $27 (low season, Friday-Sunday), $35 (high season).

Non-guests can use the pool 10 a.m.-5 p.m.: $3 adults, $2 children under 11 years old (swimming cap required).
