Holidays and Festivals

+ Add a Photo

By Lorraine Caputo

The Fiesta de San Gil on 17 March is celebrated with civic acts and parades. Other civil holidays include 20 July, Fiesta de la Patria, and 7 August, the Batalla de Boyacá. Semana Santa, Easter Week, has religious processions on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. This same week is the Festival de Música Colombiana Andina y Religiosa. The feast of the Immaculate Conception is marked with candlelight ceremonies, especially in homes. On any national holiday or three-day weekend expect San Gil to be jammed with Colombians chilling out.
