Feria Artesanal - Shopping San Gil - Colombia

It had begun as a holiday crafts fair, but now is a permanent affair. In the large front hall of San Gil's Casa de la Cultura, 17 Santandereano artesanos, mostly women, bedeck their stalls and tables with their work. To shade yourself during an outing, take along a hat made of palm or plátano (plaintain) leaf. Shield your feet with fique sandals or buy napkin holders, placemats or other items made with this plant fiber (fique). Of course, there's also jewelry. If your sweet tooth starts to ache, take home a bag of the honey caramels.

Location

Casa de la Cultural is on Calle 12, between Carreras 10 and 11, a half-block from the main plaza.
