Nothing more than a mere a banner pronounces Carnes y Carnes. Unbeknownst to the casual passer-by, beyond the gate is one of San Gil’s classier eateries. Within the large roofed garden is the restaurant that has a large brick grill in the center. At the grill, the chef prepares your entrée: chicken, perhaps with an intriguing sauce ($7-825), pork ($9-10), beef ($10-13.50), or fish or seafood ($8.50-14). Only rice and potatoes accompany the dishes —but then, the name of this bistro is Meat and Meat. While waiting for your repast, read the menu full of tales of the origins and legends of the region’s foods. This is the most expensive restaurant in town and has a reputation as one of the finest. Open daily 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
