Comida corrientes in San Gil cost $2.10-3.70. Cheaper restaurants are found on Carrera 11, between Calles 9 and 10. The municipal market is a good place to grab breakfast or lunch (daily 6 a.m.-2 p.m., Carrera 11 between Calles 13 and 14). The mercado is busiest on Wednesday and on weekends. There are several supermarkets in San Gil.
Some of the typical dishes you may want to check out are cabro (goat), pipitoria (rice prepared with finely chopped goat innards and goat's blood), ubre (cow udder), carne oleada (beef marinated in beer, sun-dried, then grilled) and hormigas culonas tostadas (roasted flying ants).
