Casa del Fundador was the home of Gonzalo Suárez Rendón, founder of the colonial city of Tunja. It is claimed to be the only home of a founder yet extant in Latin America. Built in the mid-16th century by Spanish and indigenous laborers, the mansion has Mudéjar and Andalusian features. The upstairs quarters give you an insight of Spanish life of that period, from the austere furnishings to the imaginative ceiling murals depicting a nobleman's favorite pastime, hunting. Guided tours in Spanish or English (if available). No photos of the second floor are allowed.
