Built in 1568 as a wheat mill, Hostería del Molina La Mesopotamia is now one of Villa de Leyva’s finest inns. You’ll feel you’re slipping back in time here. Its rooms are scrumptiously furnished with period pieces. Heavy embroidered curtains keep the quarters warm at night while you snuggle in the four poster bed. Each room has the modern convenience of a private, hot water bath. The millhouse itself is now the restaurant. The millionaire Vanderbilt family and actor Ernest Borgnine, amongst other famous people, have stayed here. If you aren’t a lodger, ask reception for permission to stroll through the immaculate grounds. Non-guests can even enjoy a swim in the warm pond fed by a medicinal spring ($2.65).
