Despite the glut of inns in Villa de Leyva, lodging is quite hard on the shoestring traveler’s budget here. It is difficult to find a room for under $8 per night. Avoid the high season times, when prices double or more. However, if you are so equipped, camping is a viable alternative. Most hotels are in the mid-range, charging up to $40 per night. Villa de Leyva has a few spectacular luxury hotels (complete with packages for couples who want the ultimate in weddings). The high season is all national holidays, three-day weekends, July-August, Semana Santa and December 20-January 15. At this time reservations are necessary. Hotels are not allowed to charge temporada alta prices outside of those dates set by the tourism office. If they do, report the establishment.
