Holiday & Fiesta
Everyone flocks to Villa de Leyva for the national holidays. It might seem a bit surprising that this village has the energy to host some of its own festivals, but it does. Mark your calendar for these great ones:
January—Festival de Astronomía (Astronomy Festival).
March / April—Semana Santa (Easter Week).
July—Fiestas de la Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint of Villa de Leyva, with gastronomic fairs.
August—Festival de Cometas, or the Kite Festival.
October—Festival Nacional del Árbol (National Tree Festival)
December 7-9—Festival de las Luces y Concurso de Pesebres, celebrated with a riotous burst of fireworks and a crèche, or manger scene contest.
