By Lorraine Caputo

Chepa Chaves, the legend goes, was a charming young women who arrived one day in turn-of-the-20th-century Villa de Leyva. Many fell in love with her—and her cooking. The tradition of fine Colombian cuisine continues at this restaurant named for her, with a small selection of distinctive dishes. The chef creates special house sauces to accompany grilled trout or chicken and braises rounds of beef or pork in red wine. Red snapper and goulash are other offerings on the menu, all coming with salad, rice or vegetable torta and French fries ($8.20-10.30). Chepa Chaves also present an almuerzo ejecutivo during the week ($4.25). Open Tuesday-Sunday and holidays noon-9 p.m.

Traveler Reviews of

Good eats in Villa de Leyva

Rating: 100%

I liked everything, it is the best restaurant in town. The recipes come from Mrs. Alba Lucia´s (the owner), experience traveling, cooking and preparing special events, and family recipes. It is family friendly, great atmosphere and views of the town´s church.
