Tourism Office
The tourism office in Villa de Leyva has good maps of the city and information about all there is to see and do (Tuesday- Friday 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 2-6p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.-2 p.m., closed Monday. Carrera 9, near corner Calle 13, Tel.: 8-732-0232). On weekends a tourism information kiosk operates at the bus station. The town has several websites as well with information about attractions and services: www.villadeleyva.net and www.expovilla.com.
Money
Villa de Leyva has two banks, both on Calle 12, on the Plaza Mayor. Neither cashes travelers checks. Banco Popular does cash advances on international Visa credit cards and its ATM handles Visa, Plus, Cirrus and MasterCard (Monday-Thursday 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Friday 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Calle 12 9-49). The Comcel a few doors down from the church, it is said, some times changes cash U.S. dollars.
Keeping in Touch
Telecom has two offices in Villa de Leyva. The main one has international phone service beginning at $0.45 per minute, as well as local and national calls (daily 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Calle 13 and Carrera 8). A branch office is on the main plaza, down from the cathedral (Monday-Sunday 7:30 a.m.-10 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday closed 12:30-1:30 p.m. Carrera 9 12-36). Many shops have phone service as well; look for the Minutos sign ($0.10-0.20 per minute). Villa de Leyva’s post office is in PapelerĂa LibrerĂa Comercial Fabio (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-noon, 2-8 p.m. Calle 13 7-87). Only a few internet cafĂ©s are in this town. QuinteroNet (daily 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m., 3-9 p.m., closed Wednesday mornings. Carrera 9 11-75, $1.05 per hour) and Redsi (daily 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Carrera 9 9-99, $1.05 per hour) have Skype Azul Internet is the least expensive, charging $0.95 per hour (Monday-Saturday 8 a.m.-noon, 2-8 p.m. Carrera 8 12-39).
Medical
Hospital San Francisco is at Calle 9 and Carrera 8, next to Iglesia San Francisco (Tel.: 8-732-0516 / 732-0244). Pharmacies are distributed throughout the town.
Laundry
LavanderĂa Milán does mainly dry cleaning, though it does also wet wash. A pound of shirts, underclothing and such is $1.30. Pants ($1.20) and jackets ($2.10) are charged per piece. (Calle 10 8-27, Tel.: 8-732-1374).
Camera
The two camera shops on Carrera 9, between the Plaza Mayor and the bus station, carry basic supplies. They also sell cameras, including disposable ones.
