Guides are mostly independent in Puerto Nariño. You can ask around or go to the Internado Indígena San Francisco for someone to show you the wonders of the area. To see the river and Lago Tarapoto, you can hire a boat with guide. Paddles canoes are most ecological ($16 for 2-3 persons plus guide, double in village). Peque-peques, a canoe with a long-propeller motor, are the next best ($21 for 4-5 persons, with guide). They are slow, but fuel efficient. You can also ask around about renting a canoe to paddle up Río Loretoyacü to Lago Tarapoto. Fray Hector at Alto del Águila can assist (8-10 dollars during daylight hours).
