Getting To and Away

From the El Encano crossroads on the Pasto-Mocoa road, a dirt road goes to Vereda El Puerto on the north shore of Laguna de la Cocha. From there, the road splits. The west fork leads to Vereda Romerillo; the east fork traverses as far as Vereda Santa Teresita.

Departing from Pasto’s cuartel, white collective taxis to Vereda El Puerto cost $8-10; busetas leave from Calle 20 and Carrera 20. You can also take a Sibundoy or Macoa-bound bus as far as El Encano and walk the last five kilometers (3 mi).

Vereda El Puerto is the port for boat transport to Isla La Corota and hamlets surrounding the lagoon. The five-minute ride out to the island costs about $7 per person (depending on the number of passengers).
