Pastusos proudly claim their city is safe; however, one community historian asserts that relocated, demilitarized paramilitary forces are rearming and thus the face of this town has changed. One area that's a bit dodgy and where you should take particular care is from Carrera 21 to the bus terminal after dark.
Despite the frequent bus service, some locals still prefer not to travel the Ipiales-Pasto-Popayán-Cali route at night.
