Cultural Tour
At Silvia's Tuesday morning market, you can see the Guambiano indigenous in traditional dress. Afterwards, join the Ruta Etno-Ecoturística, featuring nature trails, typical foods (especially trout), artesanías and indigenous villages. The route traverses the countryside from Piédamo to Silvia to Las Delicias to El Pueblito, before ending in La Campana. If you want to spend a few days exploring this area northeast of Popayán, Silvia has basic lodging. To rent horses, contact Freddy, a guide that rents them for $2.50 per hour (Tel: 312-758-6963).
It is possible to travel from Silvia to Tierradentro. On market day transport runs frequently until early afternoon for Totoró. There, hop on a bus going to Inzá. Several times a day pick-up trucks go to Tierradentro and San Andrés de Pisimbalá.
Getting There
Sotrancauca has buses from Popayán to Silvia on Sunday and Tuesday at 9 a.m., and daily at noon ($2.35; 1.25 hours).
