Madeira Cafe

Calle 3 4-91
Popayán, Colombia

Restaurant

By Lorraine Caputo

You can join locals slipping in for a quick cup of coffee or tea in this small, corner café. Perhaps you'd like to have that accompanies by a brownie or other sweet, or a sandwich ($0.50-$1.70). On a hot Payanés day, a juice or malt (in chocolate, coffee, amaretto of fruit flavor) can be the thing to cool you down ($1.05-$2.35). On chill evenings, a canelazo or special coffee with liquor can warm your bones ($1.85-$2.65). The earth-tone interior is furnished with wood and wrought iron tables and chairs. Not only is there ground-floor seating, but also a small balcony for a ore intimate encounter. Madeira has a shop next door selling local artesanía, chocolates and coffee. Open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Saturday 2 to 8:30 p.m.
