What better way to see Parque Nacional Natural Puracé than with a local from the Resguardo Indígena of the Coconuco-Nasa (Páez) people? They know the idiosyncrecies of this land's weather and terrain like no-one else. In fact, Surandina prefers you use their services, instead of those of an outsider, for your own safety on the treacherous páramo highlands. Furthermore, you will be helping to create employment for these inhabitants of the park who otherwise might have to turn to illegal hunting, logging or other activities to earn money. The National Park office in Popayán can help you arrange a guide. You negotiate the price with the guía yourself. The usual rate is $8-11 per day.
