By Lorraine Caputo

Parque Nacional Puracé is now safe. The military claims all landmines have been removed on Volcán Puracé; nonetheless, it is advised you stay on the trails any place in the park boundaries. The weather on the páramo can change rapidly. Temperatures reach freezing in some months, so bring plenty of warm clothing. Take precautions against hypothermia. Also have gear to protect against rain. Rubber boots are recommended. Folks in the neighboring villages say all is quiet and safe. The military presence is quite noteable in all the pueblos.
