Imagine mounting a beautiful mare to traverse these emerald hills, exploring the silent sentinels that yet guard the San Agustín region, or the many lagoons and waterfalls hidden within the folds of this landscape. Prices per hour ($5.20) and per excursion are set by the municipality. The five-hour trip to El Tablón, La Chaquira, La Pelota and El Purutal is about $15, plus another $15 for your accompaniment’s horse. Another adventure several travelers have undertaken is to ride with a guide all the way to Otavalo, Ecuador; this takes a major investment of time and money, however.
