The eating scene in San Agustín is pretty boring—just good ol' Colombian food and little else. A comida corriente usually costs $1.85. The public market at Carrera 11 and Calle 2 is a great place to grab a cheap meal. The weekly markets, when folks come in from neighboring villages, are Sunday and Monday. While in San Agustín, be sure to try dulce de pata or gelatina, a taffy-like sweet made of boiled cows' hooves and panela.
Few choices for nightlife are to be found in San Agustín. Several of the bars and discos are said to be rough-and-tumble types of places. Nonetheless, there are a few more *tranquilo* places where you can kick back and relax after a long day of hiking. Almost all are located in the village; remember this if you are staying out in the country, as taxis stop running at 9 p.m. and you'll have a long, dark walk home.
