Another place to get out of Popayán's rains are her museums. Many are the historical homes of past illustrious citizens. A few premier art museums also are on the scene, the Museo de Arte Religioso and the Museo Ibernoamericano de Arte Moderno. There is also the distinguished  Natural History Museum.

Museo Casa Mosquera (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-noon, 2-6 p.m., Saturday, Sunday and holidays 8 a.m.-noon, 2-5 p.m. Calle 3 5-14, Tel: 09-2-824-0683. Entry: $1.05.)--The 18th century home of José María Mosquera y Figueroa, whose four sons came to be Presidents of the new republic and diplomats.

Museo Casa Valencia (Tuesday-Sunday and holidays 10 a.m.-noon, 2-5 p.m. Carrera 6 2-69, Tel: 09-2-820-6160. Entry: $1.05 adults, $0.50 students, $0.25 children 6-12 years old.)--Home of poet-writer-politician-orator Guillermo Valencia.

Museo Arquidiocesano de Arte Religioso (Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 2-6 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Calle 4 4-56, Tel: 09-2-824-2759. Entry: $1.60 adults, $0.80 children 6-12 years old.)

Museo de Historia Natural (Daily 8 a.m.-noon, 2-5:30 p.m. Carrera 2A 1A-25, Tel: 09-2-820-9861, ext. 2602. Entry: $1.60 adults, $1.05 children.)

Museo Casa Negret (Calle 5 10-23)--Closed for renovation.

Museo Iberoamericano de Arte Moderno (Calle 5 10-31)--closed for renovation.

Museo Martínez (on road to Calicanto)--Collection of art by painter Efraín Martínez.
