La Portada Restaurante-Bar is one of the few dining choices in San Andrés village open out-of-season. This restaurant is light and airy, with a large, covered verandah constructed of guardanal (giant bamboo) and brick, with brick-tiled floors. Open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday evenings, you can get a desayuno corriente here for $1.60, or lunch or dinner for $1.85 (main dish only) to $2.40 (soup and bandeja). La Portada also whips up good vegetarian options. If you are staying in the Parque Arqueológico sector, remember it is 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) away, a dark walk home after dusk.
