Making up a third of the national territory, Colombia’s share of the Amazon Basin is home to an estimated 50 different tribes, buried deep in the forest.

Most of the area has barely been touched, making it the most bio diverse, yet also least accessible, rainforest area in South America.

 

The only real tourist destination here is Leticia, right on the border with Peru and Brazil. You can fly here from Bogotá and arrange jungle trips lasting from one to four days, starting and finishing in the town. At the time of writing, guerrillas are not active in the area, and it is considered to be safe.
