Restaurants
Thanks to it being Colombia’s largest Caribbean port, Barranquilla has a smorgasbord of international foods, and due to its generations of Arab immigrants, Middle Eastern restaurants are quite common (and some quite chic, with live belly dancing performances). Vegetarians can try a different restaurant each day of the week. Like everything else in Barranquilla, a comida corriente is a bit more expensive, beginning at $1.85. The market buzzes across many blocks, between Carreras 34-40 and Calles 40-42. Large supermarkets are all over town.
Nightlife
Most of the nightclubs are either in the El Prado or El Norte neighborhoods of the city. The downtown area has mainly tabernas, some of which, ahem, serve much more than mere liquor. So if you are staying in this part of town, be prepared to travel quite a distance to put on your dancing shoes—or just give the old dawgs a rest. Despite having a renowned annual jazz festival, the rest of the year this musical form is strangely absent from the city; there are no clubs featuring this genre.
