The same engineer that designed Castillo San Felipe de Barajas built Las B贸vedas to serve as military quarters for the city in the late 18th century. Within this yellow building comprised of 46 arches, are 23 vaults that were used to lodge military personnel and to store ammunition, provisions and tools. During the republican era, these vaults were used as jail cells. The structure has been renovated and now houses artisan shops selling Colombian and Caribbean handicrafts and souvenirs. Las B贸vedas is located at the northern perimeter of San Diego, next to Museo de las Fortificaciones. Its shops are open everyday from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
