An interesting half-day trip can be spent in the Manglares de Cispatá. Tour a small animal sanctuary with turtles, alligators, and crocodiles. You can touch and hold most of the animals here. A guide explains the kind of preservation work currently in the area. If you visit this area by boat, you can also visit a nice bird sanctuary with plenty of pelicans and be shown around a sardine fish farm.
There are two ways to get here:
By car, take a taxi or bus from Coveñas to Cispatá (about 30 minutes).
By boat, if you are stay on Playa Blanca, hire a boat to show you around for $50 and make a day of it.
