Playa Blanca - Beach Coveñas - Colombia

Very few foreigners know of Playa Blanca, 30 minutes west of Coveñas. This town has small beaches separated by jetties. It's where Colombians seeking sand and sun come to vacation. During the holidays, weekends, and in July, the beach fills up with people. At other times of the year this place is completely empty and, therefore, a perfect getaway should you find Coveñas not to your liking.

Hotel Playa Blanca, the only hotel in town (URL: www.hotelplayablancasanantero.com; $50 per night), offers clean and modern cabañas with hammocks, and has a large pool. Other, less expensive, accommodations are in homes across from the beach that can only be arranged upon arrival. Stock up on snacks before you leave for Playa Blanca, as the handful of restaurants here serve plain meals at high prices. To get to Playa Blanca, take a bus to San Antero ($1.70) and from there a mototaxi ($1-2) to Playa Blanca.
