Traveler Advice Types:
When to go

By Lorraine Caputo

The rainy seasons are from May to June and September to November. The eastern end of the park, where the Cañaveral and Arrecifes beaches are, receives up to 2000 millimeters (78 inches) of precipitation per year.

Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona has become the place to go for foreigners and Colombians alike. At holidays, the park gets excessively crowded, thus negatively impacting the environment. (During Christmas-New Years holiday 2007, upon reaching 3000 overnight visitors, the park was closed to anyone else entering.) For more tranquility and for the sake of the wildlife, consider avoiding these peak times.
