Hike to El Pico, Providencia

Check the skies, consult the weather forecast, speak to some islanders and then choose the ideal day to hike up to El Pico. The highest point on the rugged island of Providencia, El Pico offers breathtaking views over the whole island, its azure bays, white sandy beaches, mangroves that are home to migratory birds, quaint settlements and of MacBean lagoon. From up here overlooking the dramatic scenery one really can grasp what Captain Morgan was thinking when he decided to use this as his base. The promontory of Santa Catalina, connected but by a mere causeway to Providencia, appears as a geographical folly, erratic and strategically imperative for the Corsair Morgan’s Caribbean designs.
