San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina Things to See and Do

follow us

The San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina archipelago is rich in natural and cultural wonders. The islands are home to one national park, Old Providence McBean Lagoon, and several nature reserves, including Old Point Regional Mangrove Park and Johnny Cay, which is a popular day trip from San Andrés.

The entire marine area is the Sunflower Biosphere Reserve, protecting this warm, clear water that teems with coral reefs and life. Without a doubt, scuba diving is the most popular activity on the islands. For anyone not certified, PADI certification is not expensive. Or you can stick with snorkeling, an easy alternative. Travelers not into water sports have fine beaches to sun on or trails to hike into the hills.

Museums open the doors onto the Islands' past, from the Casa Museo Isleña to the kitschy Morgan's Cave and Pirate Museum. The best is to just kick back with the locals and learn about the unique Raizal culture.
