San Andres Things to See and Do

Most visitors to San Andrés come to relax on white-sand beaches and to drink piña coladas beside a hotel pool, after hours of duty-free shopping. That’s all well and good, but there is much more to do on this tiny island. Once you’re done tanning, you might want to check out some of the following activities.

Snorkelers will have many spots to choose from, including nearby Aquarium Island, a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Scuba divers won’t want to miss the chance to jump into the warm Caribbean and hit some local hotspots. One of the easiest and best dive sites is the sunken freighter The Blue Diamond, resting in about 12 meters (40 ft) of water off the island’s eastern shore.

An island tour is a good investment because it will take you to a number of the best spots. Popular stops on these tours are the Casa Museo Isleña, a restored traditional home, and the Blowing Hole, a somewhat bizarre tourist attraction which features a natural hole in the ground, out of which, occasionally, a strong puff of air bursts.
