Johnny Cay Regional Park - Other Activity San Andres - Colombia

One of the most popular tours in San Andrés is boating to Johnny Cay, a four-hectare (11-ac) island 2 kilometers (1.6 mi) off San Andres’ north coast. Since 2002, the islet has been a regional park, which is a natural habitat for green iguana (Iguana iguana rhinolopha) and a nesting ground for a variety of migratory birds. In the translucent sea surrounding the isle live 16 classes of coral and 30 species of fish. On the white-sand beach, visitors will see red crab (Gecarcinas lateralis), and the lizards Isla San Andres Anole (Anolis concolor) and South American whiptail (Cnemidophorus lemniscatus lemnicatus). Flora include bay cedar (Suriana maritime), lavinda (Tournefortia gnaphalodes) and coconut palm. An entry fee is charged to the cay.
