Other important offices are police (Av Francisco Newball 1-34. Tel: 512-3850/emergency: 123), Instituto Geográfico Agustín Codazzi (Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-noon, 2-6 p.m. Av 20 de Julio, Edificio de la Gobernación. Tel: 512-3096) and DAS (Monday-Friday 7:30-11 a.m., 2-5 p.m. Cra. 7, 2-70, Sector Swamp Ground). Coralina administers the islands’ nature reserves (Vía San Luis, Bight Km 26, San Andrés. Tel: 512-8273 / 512-6853, Fax: 512-0081, E-mail: coralin1@col1.telecom.co, URL: www.coralina.gov.co).

The closest U.S. Consulate in Colombia is in Barranquilla, and of the U.K., in Cartagena. Costa Rica, Guatemala, Austria and Panama have consulates on the island; check the phone directory for addresses.

Money
Banks are open Monday-Thursday 8-11:30 a.m., 2-4 p.m., and Friday until 4:30 p.m. The bilingual ATMs accept Cirrus, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and Visa. Several banks and casas de cambio are on Avenida las Américas and Avenida Providencia. Some major ones are: Banco de Bogotá (Av Colón 2-156), Banco Davivienda (Av Duarte Blum 1-110; also Av Costa Rica 3-19), and Bancolombia (Av Atlántico 1A-35), which also exchanges American Express travelers checks. Money exchange houses include Cambios y Capitales, which changes various currencies and travelers checks (Av Providencia 1-35, local 106) and Macrofinanciera (Av Providencia 1A-48, local 112). To receive wired money, see Giros & Finanzas, the Western Union agent (Centro Comercial San Andrés, local 12. Tel: 01-8000-111-999) or the MoneyGram agent, Cambiamos (Av Costa Rica 3-19. Tel: 512-3757).

Keeping in Touch
Phone booths and internet cafés are present in downtown and around the island. Cell phone providers are Comcel, Movistar and Tigo. The post office is on Avenida Newball (Edificio Cámara de Comercio, local 101).

Medical
Hospital Departamental Amor de Patria is the island's main hospital (Vía San Luis. Tel: 5512-3808). San Andrés pharmacies follow the de turno (on-shift) system. Droguería La Salud Isleña has free delivery and accepts credit cards (Av Colón 3-28. Tel: 512-5798).

Religion

Baptist, Catholic, Adventist, Spanish Baptist, Christian Missionary and Jehovah’s Witness services can all be found. Also, a mosque is located near the Catholic Church of Cristo Salvador. Most services are held in the Islanders' native Creole English.
