Roland's

Location:
Playa Manzanillo, Providencia
Colombia

Restaurant

By Richard McColl

Roland Bryan Eden along with his son Jason have the best spot on the best beach in Providencia. Shaded and sheltered homemade tables and chairs clustered in palm grove with views of Providencia's incredible Playa Manzanillo make Roland's a place to come at lunch and stay all the way through until dinner. Service of the ubiquitous seafood dishes may be slow but if you are here you'll not want to leave. Try the house speciality - snapper with vegetables cooked in allumnum foil over an open fire - simply delicious. Reggae beats play continually at a pleasant volume and on occasion a live band plays in the evening around the burning embers of the central fire.

Wow!

This is everything you expect a tropical beach hideout to be. The least touristy tourist spot you will ever visit. Roland Bryan is quite simply the most friendly host you will run into anywhere, and a man who truly loves this island he grew up on. He will do anythign it takes to make sure you leave with the best possible opinion of the island yourself. His son and mother work with him to create VERY cheap but delicious food. This is a restaurant, true, but it is also a place to be. You don't go for a meal you go for the day, just to hang out and chat with locals and Roland. Of the small number of tourists that visit this island, almost all them at one time or another pass through Roland's place.
