
Coral reefs that fringe the coast or old Spanish galleon shipwrecks out in the wider bay, which piques your curiosity? This part of Colombia’s Caribbean hides many wonders under its sea. Taganga has become a hot spot in which to explore these nether regions. Presently, about a half-dozen dive shops operate out of this small village, many offering courses that range from basic to dive master levels. You can choose daytime diving excursions, fun dives or night dives from more than 30 different sites. One outfitter even does scuba safaris to more distant locales, including Cabo de la Vela in the Guajira.

Travel Tips: Check scuba gear to make sure it is in good condition and that the outfit is PADI-certified. Ask around to other travelers for their experiences with different dive shops. There is no hyperbaric chamber on this stretch of the coast.
