Culture in Valledupar isn’t just limited to Vallenato music. Several centers provide free exhibits, literary readings and concerts:

• Alianza Colombo Francesa (Carrera 13A, 13C-66. Tel: 570-3344) — monthly art exhibits, movies (Thursday 6:30 p.m.), concerts and other free events

• Fundación Pentagrama (Carrera 6, 15-12) — piano concerts Thursday 7 p.m., by donation (rehearsals Tuesday 6:30 p.m., open to public)

• Casa de la Cultura (Calle 16A and Carrera 6) — small museum; music and dance rehearsals on front patio

• Banco de la República (Carrera 9 16-13) — art exhibits, lectures

• Biblioteca Pública Departamental Rafael Carrillo Lúquez (Calle 15 and Carrera 14)

Centro Comercial Guatapurí, on the road to Balneario Hurtado, has free Vallenato concerts featuring some of the most important composers and musicinas (Wednesday 5-6 p.m.). If you are in the mood for a movie, there is a Cinemark theater in the same mall.
