By Lorraine Caputo

For those of us of a Mediterranean culture, Panadería Árabe is like walking into a neighborhood shop. It may call itself a bakery—and sure, there’s pita bread, plus baklawa and other honey-dripping pastries, but that’s only the beginning. The shelves are full of everything to make up for those months of want: Greek and green olives, artichoke hearts, stuffed eggplant, couscous, pickled vegetables, halawa and olive oil. And in the front case, look! Turkish candies, dried dates and apricots, and natural pistachios. I think I’ll pack a picnic lunch before heading to the balneario. Want to join?
