History
Located 120km from the capital of Choco, Nuqui was established as a town in 1917 by Juanito Castro. The area was historically used by hunter-gatherers and Embera Indians and is now populated by a few paisas from Medellin cashing in on the tourist industry, and descendants of African slaves.
