El Faro

El Faro, the Lighthouse is located on the very tip of the cape, warning those at sea of the imminent danger of these rocky shores. These days, it is a modern device keeping watch for sailors. So what is the attraction of coming out here? The walk through this desert landscape or along the shore strewn with washed up fragments of large shells and sea urchins, of algae. The view of the sea stretching to an indistinct horizon. And the most glorious sunsets to be witnessed on this side of creation.

Location:
Cabo de Vela, Colombia

Hiking Types:

Getting There
Follow the road northwards out of town; when you get to the T crossroads, turn left. This will take you directly to El Faro. From the main part of the village on the south shore, it takes 45 minutes to one hour one way.

Travel Tips: Do the walk in the early morning or late afternoon, to avoid the heat. If staying to watch the sunset, do not begin the trip back too late, or you will be caught by night.
