Getting to and away

By Lorraine Caputo

If traveling with public transportation, to get to anyplace out of Cabo de la Vela, you must first go to Uribia. Three pick-ups leave daily between 4-4:30 a.m., and another possibly at 7 a.m. ($5.30); two of these continue to Maicao ($8). It is best to advise the driver the afternoon or evening before that you will want to travel the next day, so he stops to pick you up.

From Maicao a pick-up leaves at about noon, arriving in Uribia at about 4 p.m., then making its way to Cabo de la Vela at about dusk.
