Holiday & Fiesta

By Lorraine Caputo

Most of the holidays in Cabo de la Vela are the same as in the rest of Colombia, the most important being 8 December, the Velorio de la Virgen; 24 Decemeber, Christmas Eve; and 31 December, New Years Eve with the burning of effigies representing Old Man Year. A special date is 16 July, the feast day of the Virgen del Carmen, when all the hamlet’s newborns are baptized.
