Getting to and away

By Lorraine Caputo

Manaure is a fairly small town, so it is easy to get around on foot. In the hottest part of the day, though, you might consider taking a covered bicycle taxi ($0.50).

All transportation in Manaure leaves from the various company offices in the street market district, on Carrera 4 between Calles 6 and 9. Mostly they are shared taxis, departing when full.

To Riohacha: Last 4 p.m., $6.35. From Riohacha, they leave for both Manaure and

Uribia, from Calle 15 and Carrera 5 (5:30 a.m.-5 p.m.). A less expensive manner to come from Riohacha is to take a bus as far as Cuatro Vías ($2.10 ), and from there take a pick up truck or collective taxi ($2.65).

To Uribia: $2.10.

To Cabo de la Vela: You must go to Uribia to catch a pick-up for there.

To Maicao: $3.70.
