Many tour operators are eager to take you into the deep regions of the Guajira. Trips usually include the Salinas de Manaure, Uribia, Parque Eológico Jepirach and sights around Cabo de la Vela. Three-day outings take you to Nazareth and Parque Nacional Natural Macuira, or the world’s end at Punta Gallina (the most northern point of South America, where barren ochre desert meets deep-teal sea). In the past, some agencies additionally offered boating excursions upriver to virgin mangrove jungles; however, due to the insecurity the civil war had brought to the region, these were stopped. It remains to be seen if now with the returning stability, whether such trips will resume.
