The road heads north from Cuatro Vías to the Uribia-Manaure turn-offs (one tollbooth). To the left is Manaure. Turning right, after four kilometers (2.4 mi), you come to the indigenous capital of Colombia, Uribia. Here is the heart of Guajira, the land of the Wayuu. All roads lead to Uribia. It is the hub of transportation for the Guajira Alta. You must come here first to go to Cabo de la Vela and Nazareth, gateway to Parque Nacional Natural Macuira. The Plaza Parque Colombia, or Plaza Principal, is the center of village life. Here there is an obelisk, gazebo, playground, basketball court and bandstand. Around the perimeter are the important buildings, such as the mayor’s office and church, as well as restaurants and other businesses. From the plaza, all streets radiate out. All of the streets have at least three names, making it a bit difficult to give directions.
