The road heads north from Cuatro Vías to the Uribia-Manaure turn-offs (one tollbooth). To the left is Manaure. Turning right, after four kilometres (2.4 miles) you come to the Indigenous Capital of Colombia, Uribia. Here is the heart of Wajirra, the land of death and dreams, the land of the Wayuu. All roads lead to Uribia. It is the hub of transportation for the Guajira Alta. You must come here first to go to Cabo de la Vela and Nazareth, gateway to Parque Nacional Natural Macuira. This young city is laid out like Paris, France: The Plaza Parque Colombia, or Plaza Principal, is octagonal. This is the center of village life; here are an obelisk, gazebo, playground, basketball court and bandstand. Around the perimeter are the important buildings, such as the alcaldía and church, as well as restaurants and other businesses. From the plaza all streets radiate out; these have at least three names, making it a bit difficult to give directions.
